Around 22.79 lakh candidates appeared across 551 cities in India and 14 international centres at 5,432 exam centres. As per the initial student reactions and coaching institute reviews, the overall NEET UG 2026 paper was Moderate in difficulty — with Physics being the toughest and most time-consuming section, while Biology and Chemistry were comparatively easier and scoring. NEET UG 2026 is the single qualifying exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, and BHMS, and for the first time, BSc Nursing, BPT (Physiotherapy), and BOT (Occupational Therapy) courses across India. The paper consisted of 180 multiple-choice questions for a total of 720 marks covering Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. The marking scheme is +4 for each correct answer and -1 for each incorrect answer.

Per Shiksha and other expert reviews, the paper was “slightly easier than NEET 2025”, which means NEET 2026 cutoff is expected to rise compared to last year. Top scorers will likely cross the 680–700 mark range. The 720/720 perfect score is mathematically possible but historically rare — only achieved by a handful of candidates each year.
