National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 is one of the three medical entrance exams for MBBS, BDS admissions for academic session 2020-21 in India. There are two other MBBS entrance exams. One is AIIMS 2020, for admission to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. And the other is JIPMER 2020, for admission to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research. Medical aspirants in 10+2 can appear in all the three exams.
AIIMS 2020 exam date is already announced. The exam will be held on two dates – May 30, 2020 and May 31, 2020. Result will be out on June 16, 2020. The institute level exam in which students from all over India can appear acts as the gateway for admission to AIIMS New Delhi, and fourteen other AIIMS institutions. in Bathinda, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Deogarh, Gorakhpur, Jodhpur, Kalyani, Mangalagiri (Guntur), Nagpur, Patna, Rae Bareli, Raipur, Rishikesh, Telangana.
The total number of seats in AIIMS are 1,207. There are 107 seats in AIIMS New Delhi. Then there are 100 seats each in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Guntur, Jodhpur, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh. The rest namely at Bathinda, Deogarh, Gorakhpur, Kalyani, Rae Bareli, and Telangana have 50 seats each.
In AIIMS MBBS entrance exam, there are questions on physics, chemistry, biology, general knowledge, aptitude and logical thinking. These sections respectively have 60, 60, 60, 10, 10 questions.
JIPMER 2020 on the other hand is held for admission to the two campuses of JIPMER – one in Puducherry, and the other in Karaikal. This exam is computer based. The institute is expected to soon announce exam dates. Last year, exam date was notified in the month of August itself. The exam is usually held on the first Sunday in the month of June every year. Thus for the 2020-21 session, it is expected to be held on June 7, 2020.
At JIPMER there are 200 MBBS seats, 150 in Puducherry and 50 in Karaikal.
The exam has five sections namely physics, chemistry, biology, english language and comprehension, logical and quantitative reasoning with 60, 60, 60, 10, 10 questions each.
Last year, 3,38,457 students had appeared in the AIIMS MBBS entrance exam which is computer based. 1,57,488 boys and 1,80,934 girls took the test. As per the statement released by All India Institute of Medical Sciences to media, 11,380 students comprising of 7,352 boys and 4,027 girls had qualified the exam.
Likewise 1,45,467 students took the JIPMER MBBS entrance exam in the previous session. The exam was held at 280 centres in 120 cities in India.
National Testing Agency will conduct NEET 2020 on May 3, 2020 in pen and paper mode again. Thus the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test will be the first medical entrance exam of the session. After that, the exam for AIIMS will be held, and then JIPMER is likely to be the last in the calendar.
However, registrations for NEET 2020 will start on December 2, 2019, most likely at ntaneet.nic.in. Whereas basic registration for AIIMS 2020 is expected to commence in November, at aiimsexams.org. To apply for the AIIMS entrance exam, students need to first do a basic registration, and then do final registration that is likely to be available in February next year. JIPMER is also looked forward to issue registration form at jipmer.edu.in from either February or March.
Medical aspirants waiting for NEET 2020 registration, for which there is more than two months, can prepare for AIIMS and JIPMER entrance exams simultaneously.
