The Manipur Government on Wednesday cancelled Manipur Class 10th and Class 12th Board exams due to COVID-19. Manipur Education Minister S Rajen Singh has made the announcement of the cancellation of the Manipur State Board Exam 2021. Separate announcements were made by the Council of Higher Education Manipur (COHSEM), which conducts the Class 10th exam, and the Board of Secondary Education (BOSEM), which organized the class 12th exam.
The Manipur Class 10th Board exam was scheduled for April 19, 2021, earlier. The Manipur Class 12th board exam was also expected to commence on the same day. These exams were further rescheduled to May 05, 2021. However, owing to the second wave of coronavirus, the Government and Board decided to postpone the exam until further notice. Students were sceptical about whether the exam will get cancelled or postponed further.
On June 16, 2021, Manipur Education Minister S Rajen Singh during a press briefing announced that this year there will be no examinations for the class 10th and class 12th students. Manipur Class 10th students will be promoted to the next session whereas Class 12th students are exempted from appearing for the exam. A tweet was also shared in this regard on the official Twitter handle of the Manipur Government.

Along with the class 10th and class 12th Manipur Government also decided not to hold class 11th exam this year. Students will be promoted to the next session without any examination.
Addressing media persons, the Education Minister has briefed that due to the pandemic, many sectors are severely affected; including the education sector. He further adds that “It was a really tough decision whether the board and the council exams will be suspended or not ”. After a thorough discussion with local education authorities and stakeholders, the government has decided to cancel this year’s class 10th, class 11th and class 12th exam.
The criteria based on which the Manipur Class 10th and Class 12th result will be announced is not yet discussed. The Education Minister of Manipur has explained that a 14 member committee has been constituted to prepare an evaluation/ assessment mechanism. Reportedly, the Board will follow the same evaluation criteria as that of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
