Indian Institute of Science (IISc) conducted the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) 2019 aptitude test today. Exams were held for all three streams SA, SB, SX. Wherein SA exam was for class 11 students, SX for class 12, and SB for students in year first of undergraduate program.
Now, IISc will publish KVPY 2019 question papers with answers at kvpy.iisc.ernet.in. Last year the exam was held on November 4, and answer key released on November 8. In the years before that, answer keys were issued any time between one day to two weeks after exam. However KVPY went online last year and before that it was a pen and paper based test. So a better point of reference is the previous year exam only.
The institute has not disclosed the precise date and time at which it will issue the question papers and answers. However the solutions are expected this week itself, around November 7, 2019.
Once available, students will be able to download the same from kvpy.iisc.ernet.in, from the question papers and answer keys section. There will be separate question papers for SA, SB/SX. Against the master question paper, there will be a master answer key. And IISc will also invite candidates to submit objections by a deadline.
Using them, students can predict their scores. The marking scheme is +1, -0.25 for part I, and +2, -0.5 for part II. Which means that for all the correct answers in part I, and II, students will respectively get 1 mark and 2 mark each. Whereas for incorrect answers in these parts, 0.25 mark, and 0.5 mark will be deducted.
KVPY 2019 aptitude test was a computer based test. Which means that students were assigned computers at the exam center. There, they logged in and got a questions in the computer, and they had to mark the answers also there. Which in turn means that after the exam, students do not have any sort of question paper in their hands.
Before KVPY went online, every year after the exam coaching centres used to release unofficial answer keys. Now however due to the absence of a hard copy of question paper, no one releases unofficial answer keys after the exam.
Coming to the topic of KVPY cut offs. Each year nine different cut offs are used. Three cut offs per stream SA, SB, SX. And further in each stream, there are three cut offs per category.
Last year the cut offs for general, SC/ST, and PWD for SA stream were 45, 32, 32 respectively. They were 43, 30, 30 for SB, And 53, 40, 40 for SX.
In the year that is 2017, before the cut offs for general, SC/ST, and PWD for SA stream were 45, 35, 35 respectively. For SB the cut offs were in the same order as 43, 33, 33. Then for SC they were 53, 43, 43.
Even before that in 2016, cut offs were 50, 40, 40 for SA. Then 48, 34, 34 for SB. And 57, 40, 40 for SX.
Whereas students will get the answer keys very soon. They will have to wait for results for at least a month or more. Last year the result of KVPY aptitude test was announced on December 20.
Such students who are declared qualified in aptitude test are called for interview. After that, the final result is announced. Last year the SA merit list contained 1,076 students. Then SX had 1,674 students. And there were 123 in SB stream.
