The Jharkhand High Court has set aside the state government’s decision to cancel the JSSC CGL recruitment. On Friday, 6 November, Justice Deepak Roshan ordered the reinstatement of candidates selected under Advertisement No. 10/2023, with their service treated as continuous, according to The Hindu. Telegraph India reports that the judge called the cancellation “unfair and unjust”.
The exam was held on 21 and 22 September 2024. More than 2,000 candidates were affected when the government cancelled the exam and the appointments in August. The High Court stayed that decision on 21 August.
What the court said
As reported by The Hindu, the court said it is possible to identify suspect candidates, so the state should do that through the investigation instead of cancelling everything. It said the state had not presented concrete evidence that the whole selection process was affected. It also said all appointments cannot end because of allegations or pending investigations against a few candidates.
What it means for candidates
- If you were selected: the court ordered reinstatement, and said you will not lose other service benefits because of the cancellation.
- The probe is not over. The Crime Investigation Department’s investigation continues. An advocate for the petitioners said anyone found guilty can still be removed from the selection and appointments.
What we do not know yet
- The order itself. We have not seen a copy, so these details come from reports.
- Whether the state will appeal. The reports we read do not mention an appeal.
- What happens to other exams. The August decision covered 22 exams, including the 11th to 13th JPSC and CDPO exams. The reports we read focus on JSSC CGL, and it is not clear what this ruling means for the others.
