JEST 2022 will be held in the month of April 2022 in pen and paper mode. JEST is a national-level entrance exam conducted every year for candidates seeking admission into the Ph.D./Integrated Ph.D. programs in Physics, Theoretical Computer Science, Computational Biology, or Neuroscience recognized by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). Candidates qualifying JEST can avail admission into participating institutions like IISER, IIST, Bose Institute, NISER, etc. The complete details about the exam like application details, eligibility, test details, and test centers have been provided in the official notification as well.
How to Apply
The candidates can apply for JEST 2022 through the official website, jest.org, from December 13, 2021, to January 18, 2022. The exam will be conducted on Sunday, March 13, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. The exam will be held at various test centers across the country. The candidates who qualify for the exam will be called for an interview in the first or second week of May 2022. Candidates can apply for the exam by following the steps below. Application by email and post will not be accepted.
Step 1: Visit the official site for JEST 2022 at jest.org
Step 2: Click on apply for JEST 2022, and complete the online registration.
Step 3: Fill in the application details as per the requirements.
Step 4: Upload the photograph and signature as per the specifications listed by the site.
Step 5: After filling in the details submit the application by clicking on the “submit” button.
Step 6: Complete the payment of the application fee, as per the charges mentioned in the table below as well as the official notification.
Step 7: Take a printout of the completed application.
Step 8: The application fee is non-refundable and can be submitted online mode using credit/debit cards and net banking methods.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for MSc, Integrated PhD should have a BSc in Physics/Mathematics. For regular PhD the candidates should have MSc in Physics/Applied Physics; B.Tech/B.E./M.Tech/4 Year B.S/ MCA may also be considered for MSc and PhD (integrated and regular) programs in some institutes. Students in the final year are also eligible to apply for JEST 2022.

Candidates can choose the test center from various cities across India. The test centers will be available in Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Aligarh, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Bardhhaman, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Indore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Kolkata, Kochi, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nainital, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Roorkee, Sambalpur, Silchar, Siliguri, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, and Visakhapatnam.
Exam Pattern
The question paper contains three sections namely A, B, and C which include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). There will be 15 questions in Part A, 10 questions in Part B, and 25 questions in Part C. A total of 3 hours will be given to solve the paper. 3 marks will be awarded for correct answers in Sections A and B, and 1 mark in Section C. There will be no negative marking in Part B, but 1 mark will be deducted for wrong answers in Section A and 1/3 in Section C. The question paper consists of various graduation and post-graduation level questions offered by Indian Universities.
