JEE Main 2019: NTA Allots Random Dates Instead Of Slot Booking; Know Why

National Testing Agency (NTA) had taken over JEE Main 2019 from CBSE and has brought many variations in the exam. The very first being that JEE Main from this year is conducted twice that is once in January and the second in April 2019. The April session of JEE Main 2019 is scheduled from April 7 to 20, 2019.

Now as we know NTA has no slot booking system for JEE Main examination and candidates are allocated exam center, exam date, and exam session will be done randomly, through computer software. The question is why unlike other entrance VITEEE, MU OET etc, Candidates can not book a slot for JEE Main.

What NTA Says?

“To determine the NTA Score on the basis of two attempts made by the equal number of candidates is a prerequisite. Hence, the random allotment will be made by the computer software, as per the decision taken by the NTA”.

To make it easier to understand, as we know this year JEE Main is conducted twice and candidates can appear in both the session of the examination. Also, the examination will be conducted on different days and shifts so it will not be easy for NTA to maintain the difficulty level of the paper.

However, for candidates who will be taking the exam in both the sessions the best score of the two will be considered. In order to be neutral with every candidate talking the exam, NTA has decided to generate a score apart from the raw score obtained by the candidates.

In order to generate this score, it is important that the number of candidates is the same for each shift of examination be the same and as per NTA. Therefore, they have excluded the slot booking process from JEE Main 2019.

About NTA Score

The NTA percentile or score is obtained for every candidate and as per this score, the All India Rank (AIR) will be obtained. The formula to generate NTA Score:“(100 X Total number of candidates who have appeared in the “session” with the raw score equal to less than the candidate’s) ÷ Total number of the candidates appeared in the ‟Session‟.

In addition to this, for candidates who will be taking JEE Main in both the sessions the All India Rank obtained by NTA will be as per the best score obtained by them in the exams. Those who have appeared in either January or April exam will have their name in the AIr based on one score only, either of the April exam or of the January exam.

The April session of JEE Main 2019 is yet to be conducted by NTA, candidates who are still thinking to apply can apply latest by March 7, 2019. The exam will be held all across the country in 467 centres in 258 Cities.
