The Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata is inviting online applications to fill up 19 vacant Scientific Assistant A positions and 17 vacant Associate Scientist A positions in 2020. The vacancies, along with other necessary details are advertised through separate official notices published at the website of the Institute i.e. isical.ac.in. Eligible and willing candidates are required to apply online for the recruitment at the official website before the last date i.e. July 31, 2020. The process of online application submission is beginning on and from June 22, 2020. Selection and appointment are made on a direct recruitment basis while a candidate can apply for only one specialization of these posts. It is mandatory for all applicants to have knowledge of computer operations and application software for all kinds of posts.
The available number of vacancies in each cadre of the post are bifurcated across various specializations. In the Scientific Assistant A posts, the 19 vacancies are bifurcated across the specializations of Agriculture (01), Library Science (01), Computer Science (13), Biological Science (01), Physics (01), Economics (01) and Geology (01). On the other hand, the 17 vacancies in the post cadre of Associate Scientist A, are bifurcated across the specializations of Computer Science (12), Geology (01), Library Science (01), Museology (01), Statistics (01), Agriculture (01). Post-wise detailed conditions of eligibility, in terms of the minimum educational qualifications, are indicated in the respective recruitment notifications available at the website. However, for all the posts, applicants must be within the maximum age of 35 years as on June 01, 2020. The upper age limit is relaxable by 05 years for SC/ST candidates and 03 years for OBC(NCL) candidates. Similarly, PWD candidates are also entitled for such relaxations as per applicable government norms.
After the completion of the ISI decided selection process, candidates are appointed to the vacant positions on the basis of direct recruitment. Those appointed to the post of Scientific Assistant A, are entitled for compensation at the Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission at the scale of pay of Rs 35,000-1,12,400. On the other hand, those who are appointed at the Associate Scientist A position are entitled to receive monthly compensation at the Level 7 of the 7th Central Pay Commission at the scale of pay of Rs 44,900-1,42,400.
The detailed notification released by the ISI at the official website also indicates the brief job profile for each cadre of the post. Candidates appointed to the post of Scientific Assistant A are required to assist in scientific work (including fieldwork), research projects, publication, performing sampling and data collection, and their subsequent analysis in a laboratory environment, maintenance of equipment among others. On the other hand, the job profile of candidates appointed to the post of Associate Scientist A includes organizing and conducting training/teaching activities, manage and supervise large scale data processing activities, management, and supervision of computer center, etc. Finally shortlisted candidates can be placed anywhere across India in different offices and facilities of the Institute.
