IISER Aptitude Test 2021 analysis
According to students who took the test, the aptitude test was difficult in comparison to engineering exams like JEE Main 2021 and NEST 2021.
Students mostly encountered questions which tested their conceptual clarity and topic understanding. This implies that the paper comprised of very few direct, straight-forward or formula-based questions. In all three sections of the aptitude test, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, emphasis was given to Class 12 syllabus, outside the realm of NCERT. Hence, candidates who only studied or mugged-up the NCERT textbooks would have faced a major disadvantage while attempting the paper.
Starting with Physics, the questions were of moderate-to-difficult in terms of level of difficulty. Chapters such as Laws of Motion, Kinematics, Electrostatics and Current Electricity were given higher weightage compared to other chapters. Students emphasised that rather than formula-based questions, the Physics section mainly focused on concepts and their applications.
The Chemistry section unsurprisingly, paid more attention to the Organic Chemistry syllabus in comparison to Inorganic and Physical Chemistry sections. Again, the section contained moderate-to-difficult level questions. Students were asked objective-based multiple-choice questions based on chapters like Alcohols, Ketones, Aldehydes, Name reactions, Coordinate Chemistry, etc.
The Mathematics section was marginally simple in comparison to the other two subjects with a special emphasis on 3D Geometry and Probability. Fewer questions were asked from Calculus portion such as Integration, Derivatives and Limits. In contrast to Physics and Chemistry, this subject featured more questions from the Class 11 NCERT syllabus rather than Class 12.
Lastly, the Biology section was also of moderate level, to the relief of students attempting the IISER Aptitude Test 2021. However, the questions were trickier and more complex compared to those asked in the NEET 2021 examination. The understanding of students was tested based on chapters like Genetics & Evolution, Cell Structure & Function, etc.
