IISc Bangalore Semester Update

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, has decided to conduct the August 2020 semester through the online mode from October 1, 2020. The institute released an announcement on its official portal to notify students about the August-December 2020 semester. The reputed institute provides various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in science-related subjects. Orientation program for the same will begin in the last week of September 2020.

The decision was made due to the ongoing pandemic and health-related concerns in the state of Karnataka. The announcement came after the Karnataka government instructed universities to conduct classes through online mode from September 2020. The government also stated that offline classes may commence from October 2020 onwards, if the COVID-19 situation remains under control. Colleges and institutes were asked to make arrangements accordingly.

The announcement released on the official portal stated that registration process shall commence from September 25, 2020. The classes for various courses shall begin from October 1, 2020. Students can drop the course without mentioning till December 15, 2020. After this date, students can leave their course until January 5, 2020, only after providing proper reasoning. Students must keep in mind that the end-semester examinations will be conducted from January 20 to 29, 2021. Interested candidates can seek further instructions and guidelines from the official website.

Detailed information regarding the courses available for registration will be posted on the respective department websites. This will also contain other important information such as fee-structure, course pattern, etc. Also, registration or dropping of courses will happen through the new Student Life Cycle Management (SCLM) system of the institute. Instructions regarding the same will be provided on September 25, 2020. Assessment of the entire semester including assignments and end-semester exams will be strictly done in the online mode.

IISc Bangalore may conduct the January-April Semester through offline mode only if the COVID situation remains under control. Otherwise, this semester may also be conducted through online mode. Proper dates for the January-April semester haven’t been decided yet. However, the tentative schedule for the same is also mentioned in the document. The semester will begin on March 1, 2021. The semester shall end on June 30, 2021, including semester examinations.

Karnataka has been recording a high number of cases in August due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the central government announced the Unlock 4.0 details, Karnataka government instructed its universities to begin classes through online mode. While it is uncertain when the pandemic will end, academics of students must not get affected. Students wishing to pursue courses in IISc, Bangalore are advised to visit the official website regularly to remain updated about the important announcements.
