The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) will be holding the board examination for Class 12 in the state from July 01 with all COVID-19 protocols in place. The news was announced by the state education minister, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama on Tuesday evening. He also confirmed that the exams will be conducted as per the existing system. A timetable for the same will be released in due course of time.
As reported by ANI, he said, “Gujarat Secondary & Higher Secondary Education Board will conduct Class 12 exams as per the existing system. Exams of science & general streams will begin on July 01. Part-1 of the science stream has MCQs whereas Part-2 is based on descriptive writing”. The decision was taken after the education minister’s meeting with CM Vijay Rupani.
Students from the science stream have to answer 50 multiple choice questions and a subjective paper of 50 marks. Whereas, students from the arts stream have to attempt a subjective paper of 100 marks.
For students who are unable to attend the exams due to the COVID-19 situation, can reappear after 25 days, the government has made special provision for them. They will be given a different set of question papers. A decision on students who had failed in the previous year’s exams and were repeating will be taken once the COVID-19 situation is stabilized in the state.
If we go by the reports then, 6.8 lakh students including 1.40 lakh of science stream and 5.43 lakh students of the general stream (arts & commerce stream) are set to appear for the exam. Keeping the COVID situation in mind, the government has decided to allow only 20 students to sit in a class. The government has also increased the number of exam centers and exam halls and the students will be allotted centers nearer to their residence.
Earlier, the board exams for Class 12, 2021 were postponed due to the rising coronavirus cases across the state. On May 15, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had announced that the exams that were scheduled to begin from May 15, 2021, will be conducted at a later date. Also, the exams for Class 10 were canceled by the government citing the same reason i.e COVID outbreak. The regular students from classes 1 to 11 were promoted to the next class after the CM decided on mass promotion.
