The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) is expected to release the admission prospectus for the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) 2021 in the last week of March 2021. This prospectus is for admissions to professional degree programmes for the upcoming academic year 2021-22. The document shall contain the official schedule for seeking admission to degree programs like Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy and various other courses.
According to DTE officials, candidates can seek admission to Engineering and Pharmacy degree programs through the GCET 2021 examination. However, for all other degree seats, entry shall be granted based on the student’s performance in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2021. Authorities have also clarified that the GCET 2021 official dates shall be announced after the declaration of NEET 2021 exam dates.
Authorities stated that currently, they are waiting for the NEET 2021 exam dates to be declared. Based on these dates, the GCET 2021 exam date and the admission schedule shall be announced. In Goa, approximately 3000 students apply for professional degree programs in the state. Out of these, 65% of students appear for both GCET and NEET. Hence, it is important that the dates of both exams don’t clash. Moreover, there must be at least a week’s gap between both the entrance exams to help students study and appear for them without any hassles.
GCET 2021 prospectus is expected to release by the end of March 2021. Apart from the admission schedule, the document shall contain other important information such as details of degree programmes available, seats, eligibility criteria, merit criteria, etc. It shall also comprise rules and procedures to be followed during the admission process as well as specific dates for each round of admission.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the country to go into lockdown during the previous academic year i.e., 2020-21. Hence, most of the admission process right from submitting the application forms to the allotment of seats was conducted through the online mode. GCET is usually conducted on May 04 or 05 during a normal academic year. However, due to the delay in the academic year caused by the pandemic, the exam is likely to be held in June 2021.
Officials stated that this year, GCET 2021 is likely to be conducted by mid-June, 2021. Application forms for the same shall be accepted in the month of May 2021. DTE announced that the dates and procedures for submitting the GCET 2021 application form shall be announced on May 01, 2021. Subsequently, the exact exam date for conducting the exam shall be notified by June 1, 2021.
