The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has successfully conducted the first shift of today’s Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022. Candidates had to appear for the exam from 9 AM to 12 Noon. In the first shift, the examinations for two subjects were held, i.e. Computer Science and Bio-medical Engineering. With the conclusion of the first shift, it’s time to take a look at the overall exam analysis CS paper, along with the difficulty level of the question paper.

As per sources, the overall difficulty level of the question paper was between easy to moderate. The highest weightage of marks was seen in Algorithms and Discrete Mathematics. However, the overall level of Engineering Maths and General Aptitude was easy. It was also seen that around 9 to 12 questions in the paper were MSQs.
Exam Analysis
It is reported that 50% of the numerical questions were directly based on concepts. The question paper saw 14 to 16 NAT type questions. Overall, there were 20% conceptual questions and 15% theoretical ones. Candidates who are searching for the GATE 2022 CS answer keys can get them from unofficial sources like YouTube. The official ones’ however, may take some time to be released. The questions in the exam were mostly based on topics like Algorithms, Data Structures, Computer Organisation, Digital Logic, Computer Network, Theory of Computation, Data Bases, Compiler Design, Operating Systems and Discrete Mathematics.
GATE 2022 CS: Exam Pattern
The overall pattern of the examination was based on objective type questions. However, the type of questions involved Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. Candidates were given a duration of 03 hours to appear for the exam.
The questions are mainly aimed at testing the candidate’s recall, comprehension, application, analysis and synthesis skills. Candidates were required to answer a total of 65 questions. These questions, however, were divided into 10 questions from General Aptitude (GA) and 55 questions from CS. On the other hand, the marks distribution in this GATE 2022 exam was different, details of which are given below.
- General Aptitude (GA) – 15 Marks
- Engineering Mathematics – 13 Marks
- Computer Science – 72 Marks
In this way, the total marks of the question paper stood at 100. Prior to going through the paper discussions, candidates should know the negative marking pattern in the exam. For every 01 mark MCQ, 1/3 marks will be deducted but for every 02 mark MCQ, 2/3 marks from the question will be deducted.
