Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay) has released the official notification for conducting the latest iteration of the qualifying examination i.e. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2021. As the Organizing Institute of GATE 2021, the IIT has released the notice detailing the pre-examination, examination and post-examination procedure and terms & conditions of the exam at the website i.e. gate.iitb.ac.in. Eligible and interested candidates can check the details by visiting the site and downloading the notice. The online registration process is commencing on September 14, 2020, and the last date to register online at the website is September 30, 2020. However, candidates will be able to register online till October 7, 2020, by paying a late fee. The last date of making modifications to Category, Paper and examination city by paying an additional fee is November 13, 2020. Admit cards for GATE 2021 are scheduled to be released on January 8, 2021. The Computer-Based Tests are scheduled to be held on February 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 in two consecutive shifts i.e. from 09.00 AM to 12.00 PM & 03.00 PM to 06.00 PM. Results of GATE 2021 are scheduled to be announced on March 22, 2021.
The purpose of the GATE exam is to evaluate the comprehensive understanding of candidates in various undergraduate subjects in the fields of Engineering, Technology, Architecture and post graduate level subjects in Arts, Commerce and Science. Various PSUs has in the past considered GATE score as a parameter for selection of candidates for recruitment to various posts. For the current session, the GATE exam is being conducted for 27 papers. The examination is scheduled to be conducted in major cities across India as well as in six overseas locations. Candidates willing to appear in the GATE 2021 exam must ensure that they satisfy the minimum eligibility conditions.
Candidates studying in the 3rd or higher years of any government approved undergraduate degree course in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts are eligible to apply for the the GATE 2021 exam. Candidates who have obtained such degree are also eligible to apply for the GATE 2021 exam. The complete list of approved undergraduate programs is indicated in the official notification for GATE 2021. Candidates are advised to go through the notice before applying.
The list of the 27 GATE papers is also indicated in the official notification. Candidates can apply to appear in any one or up to two papers of GATE examination. Candidates choosing to appear in two papers have to choose from the combination of papers provided in the official notification. Applications for GATE 2021 can be submitted through the official website only. An application fee of Rs 1500 must be paid by applicants per paper. Candidates can apply online during the extended period by paying a fee of Rs 2000 per paper. Female, SC/ST and PWD candidates have to pay a fee of Rs 750. However, during the extended application period, such candidates have to pay a fee of Rs 1250 in order to apply. For exam centres outside of India, candidates have to pay fees as specified in the official notification for different overseas centres.
