Delhi University admission process for the session 2021-22 might be delayed until July – August, as per Rajeev Gupta, Chairperson-Admissions, DU. While talking to a prestigious newspaper, he said that DU admission is done at the pan India level. Hence, the varsity has to consider the state board timeline as well. If any of the state board will announce class 12th result after July or August then the admission process might be delayed.
States like West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Odisha, Karnataka, etc have not cancelled the class 12 board exams yet. As of now, the status of class 12th board exams in these states stands postponed. A final decision is expected soon. However, if these boards decide to hold exams in the month of July or August then it might lead to a delay in Delhi University admission 2021.
Rajeev Gupta also informed that the DU admission committee will soon start discussing how the admissions should be done. The varsity is waiting for CBSE to announce assessment criteria for class 12th. Based on that, DU will decide how seats should be filled.
For now, the university is exploring admission options. DU’s UG admission has always been merit-based, there are just a few courses for which DUET by NTA is conducted. However, as per NEP, now all the UG, PG, research admissions in Central Universities were supposed to be held through CUCET.
The announcement for holding CUCET was first made in New Education Policy (NEP) and after that news reports hinted that National Testing Agency (NTA) will hold the exam. However, so far DU has not made the final call for the admission process. The acting VC of DU, P.C. Joshi has told newspapers that given the situation, merit based admission seems feasible as the circumstances are unpredictable. The admission chairperson of DU also explained that whatever criteria the board follows for declaring class 12th result, DU will prepare cutoff as per it.
Also, Delhi University has considered the fact that 10+2 passed students have to also appear for JEE Main and NEET 2021, another 2 big national level entrance exams. With these 2 exams pending, DU is not willing to go ahead with any admission tests.
However, the university did not brush off the idea of holding CUCET. P.C. Joshi is also part of the committee which is overlooking the common entrance exam for Central universities admission. He said that proposal to hold CUCET has been sent to the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the response is awaited. DU has also proposed that admissions can be based on 50% weightage to class 12 marks and 50% to CUCET scores.
Delhi University is one of the oldest and premier universities of India, which is divided into south and north campus. There are 91 colleges, 16 Faculties, 86 Departments, 20 centres, and 03 institutes under DU. The affiliated colleges of DU offer more than 500 courses.
Currently, DU has released the admission form for the Foreign nationals at fsr2021.du.ac.in. The admission for the national candidates is to start soon. As per the official notice on du.ac.in, dated April 6, 2021, the DU admissions will be starting soon. Apart from this, there is no more update on the official website of DU.
