The fate of the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams in the north-eastern state of Assam is yet to be decided although as per latest reports, the government is considering options to conduct the examinations this year. While this has led to a massive dissent among registered students who is demanding education Boards SEBA and AHSEC to cancel the exams, as per latest updates, it is unlikely that the Board exams will be cancelled by state education minister Ranoj Pegu.
As per latest reports, the Assam state government is exploring possibilities to conduct the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council’s Class 12 board exams and Assam State Education Board’s Class 10 board exams. New patterns of conducting the examinations amidst the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is being considered and as per latest updates, the examinations will be conducted within 15 days of normalizing of the current situations in the state.

Earlier this week, leading dailies reported that the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council is waiting for a green signal from the health department to conduct the Class 12 board exams. On the other hand, Assam State Education Board (SEBA) is also considering to conduct the Class 10 board exams as per new pattern.
The revised exam pattern of the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams (if at all conducted) will feature reduced subjects. AHSEC is reportedly considering conducting the Class 12 board exams by reducing the number of papers. As per reports, the exam will be conducted for three papers for each student of Class 12. On the other hand, SEBA is considering to drop the sixth subject for Class 10 candidates and will be conducting the exams for only five subjects this year.
Earlier, in view of the pandemic, the Assam state government postponed the board exams while a final decision is yet to be taken regarding the fate of the board exams. Based on earlier reports, the state education minister has shown an inclination toward conducting the board exams in the state this year.
It may be noted that the CBSE has recently cancelled the Class 12 board exams while the Class 10 exams were already cancelled before. Now, as per latest reports, aspirants in Assam are hoping that a similar decision will be taken by the Assam government and the board exams will be cancelled. While no official news regarding the cancellation of the Assam board exams 2021 has surfaced, based on the latest development, the government is considering the possibilities to conduct the exams with a reduced number of subjects.
