Teacher Eligibility Tests are conducted at the state level by most Indian states as well the Central Board of Secondary Education at the national level. The primary purpose of TET exams in India is to certify qualified personnel as fit for recruitment as a teacher of Class I to VIII.
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the country last year, the conventional schedule of events of various TET exams has been disrupted. The trend has been carried forward to the current year as the pandemic situation is far from getting better. The national level CTET exam was postponed last year and the exam was conducted in January 2021. The results of the exam are already released by CBSE. However, there is no news as to when the CTET 2021 exam may be conducted this year.
At the state level as well, TET examinations have taken the hit from the pandemic and the aftermaths have been evident in postponement of exam dates. In Uttar Pradesh, the UPTET 2021 exam was scheduled to be held on August 25, 2021 while the official notification was due to release in May, 2021. However, the notification has been delayed and the exam date stands postponed as per latest developments.
In Rajasthan, the TET exam i.e. REET 2021 was scheduled to be held after a long waiting time on April 25, 2021. However, the exam date was revised and scheduled to be held on June 20, 2021. Although the new exam date is effective until any latest announcement is made by the government, it is being anticipated that the new REET 2021 exam date in June 2021 may also be postponed further on account of the pandemic.
Chhattisgarh government postponed the CG TET exam indefinitely during the last year and there is no news if the exam will be conducted this year. Similarly, the MP TET (Madhya Pradesh) which was also postponed last year, was scheduled to be held in January 2021. However, as per latest developments, the MP TET exam date in January 2021 has again been postponed and the conducting board will declare revised dates in due course of time.
Some states are yet to take a decision on the conduct of TET exams in 2021. For example, in Himachal Pradesh, the official notification for the HP TET 2021 exam is already out and the exam is scheduled to be held from July 04 to 18, 2021. Although the online registration process is due to start on May 24, 2021, the pandemic situations will impact the decision to conduct the exam in July. In the southern state of Kerala, the TET exam in 2021 is yet not scheduled. However, online registrations are ongoing with May 23, 2021, being the revised last date.
