The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the subject-wise marks split for the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams of 2026-27. It shows how each subject’s marks divide between the theory paper and practicals, projects or internal assessment, and whether an outside examiner will be appointed. The circular is dated 6 November, the same day as the 2027 date sheet.
Nothing has changed for the main subjects. We compared them with last year’s circular, dated 18 November 2025, and the marks are the same. The difference is timing: schools have the split 12 days earlier than last year, and winter-bound schools start practicals on 9 November.
Class 10: main subjects
| Subject | Theory | Rest of the marks |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics (Standard and Basic) | 80 | 20 internal assessment |
| Science | 80 | 20 internal assessment |
| Social Science | 80 | 20 internal assessment |
| English (both courses), Hindi (A and B), Sanskrit | 80 | 20 internal assessment |
| Computer Applications, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence | 50 (2-hour paper) | 50 practical |

No Class 10 subject gets an outside practical examiner. Your school assesses all of the non-theory marks.

The full list covers 83 Class 10 subjects and 121 Class 12 subjects, including the skill subjects. Most Class 12 skill subjects are 60 theory and 40 practical, or 50 and 50, all with an outside examiner. The CBSE circular has every subject.
What it means for you
- Some marks are earned before the boards. Practical, project and internal assessment marks are given in school and uploaded to CBSE before the theory exams. For Class 12 science, that is 30 of every 100 marks.
- An outside examiner means someone CBSE appoints, not your own teacher alone. This applies to most Class 12 practicals and to projects in humanities and commerce.
- Know when your practicals are. Winter-bound schools hold them from 9 November to 19 December, and other schools from 1 January. Our practicals report has the details.
- Theory exams start on 16 February 2027. See our date sheet report for the main dates.
The circular also lists the answer book for each paper: 32 pages for most three-hour papers, 20 pages for two-hour papers, and 40 pages with graph pages for Mathematics. Subject-wise dates are on AglaSem Schools: Class 10 date sheet and Class 12 date sheet.
