The Computer Science paper was based on a multiple-choice question format like every other exam conducted under Term 1. There is also no provision of negative marking. The paper was divided into three sections. Section A consisted of 25 questions out of which students had to answer any 20. Section B consisted of 24 questions out of which 20, again, had to be attempted. The last section, Section C, consisted of 6 questions based on a case study. Students had to answer any five questions from this section. Each question carried equal marks.
Computer Science is a very popular optional paper in the CBSE and the term 1 syllabus included objective questions from Computational Thinking and Programming. Largely, it included Python and its functions, and Introduction to Files. CBSE had also released sample papers prior to the exam to help the students understand the syllabus and exam pattern better. Students also had access to the previous years’ question papers to prepare for the same.
The exam was conducted for a total of 35 marks to be solved in 90 minutes. The Term 2 examination will be subjective in nature and will also be conducted for a total of 35 marks. Students are marked out of 30 for their practical assessment and their final scores are released for a total of 100 marks. This new system of examination was introduced by CBSE this year itself keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic. The bifurcated system has given the students a reduced syllabus and also makes it easier for them to navigate their board exam after the uncertain and chaotic year that have had.
