In the wake of constantly increasing number of COVID-19 cases and keeping the well being of the students at priority, it has been decided that CBSE will not hold board exams for class 10 this year. Also, the exams for class 12 has been postponed for now. The decision has been taken in a high-level meeting today to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation.
The meeting was chaired by The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narenda Modi. Union Education Minister, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, School and Higher Education Secretaries and other top officials attended the meeting and took the decision unanimously.
Now that the exam have been cancelled, the results of Class 10th board exams will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. Any candidate who will not be satisfied with the marks allocated to them on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit for an exam as well. These exams will be held when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams.
Talking about the class 12 board exams, then the exams are postponed until further notice. The COVID-19 situation will be reviewed first on June 01, 2021. Based on the situation, decisions will be taken and a notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations.
The Board exam for class X and XII conducted by CBSE were scheduled to begin from May 4, 2021. But the COVID-19 second wave in the nation has made the situations worse. Schools have been shut down in 11 states. Since CBSE is a centralised board and has the responsibility to hold the exams at the national level, the situations of all the states have to be taken into consideration.
Looking to the present situation of the pandemic and school closures, and also taking into account the safety and well-being of the students, the decisions have been taken in the meeting today as discussed above. The official notice in this regard has been issued and can be checked below:
