Assam government has decided to conduct both the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams this year as confirmed by latest media reports. The state education minister, Mr Ranoj Pegu has reportedly announced that the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will conduct the HLSC (Class 10th) and the HS (Class 12th) board exams respectively in July 2021 as per CBSE’s latest proposal. The exact dates are to be confirmed in due course of time.
The state government of Assam postponed the earlier scheduled Class 10 and Class 12 board exams indefinitely in May 2021. The offline examinations were postponed on account of the COVID-19 pandemic in India and the state announced that a revised schedule will be released once situations are more conducive to conducting offline tests. While most state boards and the CBSE has cancelled the Class 10 boards this year and is reviewing situations to conduct Class 12 board exams, the Assam government has decided to conduct both the examinations.
Although the state government has not confirmed any official date, as per reports, the exams will be conducted tentatively in July 2021. In deciding so, the state has provided consensus to the inclination of the central government and concerned stakeholders from the education governance in conducting the Class 12 board exams in 2021.
It may be noted that a high-profile meeting was held at the central level where the CBSE recently proposed that the Class 12 board exams can be conducted at schools where the students are already enrolled this year. In doing so, the exam pattern will be changed and the duration of the exam will be reduced. Furthermore, if this proposal is accepted, the exams will be held for one language subject and three elective subjects only. The merit in the fifth and sixth subjects are to be determined on the basis of performance in the major subjects only.
Now, the Assam state government has confirmed that the exams for the Class 10 and Class 12 boards will be held but for three subjects only. As per reports, the new exams dates will be announced within 15 days of improvement of situations in the state. Whereas the central education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has assured that a decision to conduct the board exams will be taken by June 01, 2021, after the high profile meeting regarding the exams ended earlier this week. Aspirants are advised to be vigilant on the official websites of SEBA and AHSEC and focus on preparations as the state board has confirmed that the exams will be surely conducted.
