On Thursday, Ambedkar University, Delhi has announced that it is going to conduct all undergraduate admissions via the Common University Entrance Test or CUET 2022. While addressing a press conference, Vice Chancellor Anu Singh Lather announced that it is mandatory for all candidates desiring admission to the University to appear for CUET 2022. Moreover, the ones seeking admission to the supernumerary seats must also take the test.
However, the eligibility criteria for admission will only be decided based on the marks obtained in CUET 2022. According to Professor Kartik Dave (Dean Planning, AU), candidates will be able to appear for the test only in those subjects which they have studied in class 12. As such, the final merit will be calculated as per the combination of only those subjects. Anyone desiring to change their stream will not be in any disadvantageous position.
As per the Dean of Student Services Suresh Babu, CUET 2022 is going to provide a level playing ground for all the students. Though Ambedkar University is a state university, the authority decided to opt for the central level entrance test just to keep the interest of the larger society. Last month, UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar also announced that the central universities will have to use the CUET 2022 scores for admission to the undergraduate programmes.
In the academic session 2022-23, the University will also be introducing new courses such as Master of Arts in Criminology and Philosophy along with Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. The process of introducing a new School of Rural and Tribal Studies is also underway. Although the dates have not been mentioned, CUET 2022 is going to be held in the first or second week of July.
