Amid rising COVID-19 cases in the country, the Telangana state government has announced the extension of holidays for all educational institutions till January 30, 2022. This extension is applicable to all institutions – colleges, schools and coaching institutions. The state government is yet to release an official notice regarding the announcement. However, the Chief Secretary of Telangana Somesh Kumar confirmed the extension of closure through the official twitter account @TelenganaCS.
Initially, the state government had decided on imposing a vacation for all educational institutions from January 08 to 16, 2022. This was an attempt to curb the spread of the virus. However, the cases have continued to increase in the state, prompting the government to extend the closure by 15 days to January 30, 2022. An official notice announcing the same is expected to come out soon.

Following the closure of all institutions, reputed universities like Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) have instructed its colleges to commence lectures through the online mode for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Online education in universities will most likely continue till further orders by the state government. Chances are that unless the situation doesn’t stabilise in the state, classes will take place through the online mode.
While this is the situation with respect to colleges, Class 10 and 12 students are wondering about their upcoming board exams 2021-22. As per reports, the state board exams are going to be conducted in the March-April 2022 period. The Class 10 exams are likely to be conducted from March 15 to April 14, 2022. Similarly, the Class 12 state board exams will be held from March 04 to 30, 2022.
As per experts, the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to stabilise in the country by February 2022. If this is true, the schedule is likely to remain the same without any postponement or rescheduling. However, if the pandemic situation worsens, the state authorities will most likely have to postpone the board exams. Or similar to last year, decide on alternate criteria to evaluate students. All students need to note that these are just speculations and depends on how the pandemic situation pans out in the future.
Along with Telangana, the Uttar Pradesh government today, announced the extension of closure of all educational institutions by a week’s time to January 23, 2022. Earlier, the closure was restricted to Class 1-8. However, due to rising infections within the state, this restriction has now been imposed on all institutions.
