Tamil Nadu Online Exams

It is a meme galore on Twitter, the popular micro-blogging website, under the hashtag #OnlineExam after the Tamil Nadu government announced online exams for college students. These exams are scheduled to begin on February 01, 2022. However, this does not apply to fourth-year students. They will have offline exams as usual, on their respective college premises. Although this decision comes at a point when the COVID-19 cases in the country are increasing, colleges seem to dislike this new decision.

#OnlineExam Trending on Twitter

Taking a looking a trending hashtag on Twitter, #OnlineExam is surely gaining momentum with students incessantly posting memes on Twitter. In fact, students have welcomed the recent decision announced by the Tamil Nadu government. Although most students are delighted by this decision, the fourth-year students have an opposing view. Amid rising cases in the state, the Tamil Nadu government had asked for the immediate closure of schools and colleges. Educational institutes were directed to resume online lectures and internal assessments. Despite this closure, final-year students are expected to give their exams through offline mode when lectures are being conducted via Zoom.

What do colleges want?

In addition to fourth-year students, colleges are also opposing this new decision by the Tamil Nadu government. But their reasons for opposing are entirely different. Colleges want to conduct the semester exams for all students through the offline mode. This may be to prevent any unfair means and practices during the exam. It is also to ensure the integrity of university exams. But it is unlikely that the state government will go back on this new ruling.

Dates for College Exams

As per the latest announcement, college exams will commence from February 01, 2022, and shall continue till February 20, 2022. Students are advised to visit their respective college websites for the exact schedule and sequence of exams.

The state government has made several crucial announcements in the last few days, owing to the worrying pandemic situation. While shutting down schools till January 31, 2022, the government has planned on conducting a mass vaccination drive to inoculate 33 lakh students. These students fall under the age group of 15-18 years. This development comes just days after the central government directed all states to vaccinate individuals falling under this age group.
