Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) launched a new scholarship this year, by the name of Girl Child Scholarship Scheme (GCSS). Through it, the foundation aimed at empowering female students from economically weaker sections of the society to pursue their education. For SOF GCSS 2019-20, names of winners have been published today, at sofworld.org.
SOF has published names of 308 students of various classes. They are all meritorious students from economically weaker sections. The results of this scheme can now be checked from sofworld.org/sof-gcss-winners-2019-20.
Scholarship amounting to Rs 5,000 will be given to each student to support their education for a full year. To invite applications, SOF had sent nomination forms to schools along with prospectus.
For winners, scholarship amount will be released by December 31, 2019, as per the application form sent to schools. Cheques in the names of selected students will be dispatched to school address.
Schools had to send a proposal recommending a girl child for consideration for GCSS. Only one girl child per school could be nominated. Recommendation form had to be signed by the principal or headmaster or headmistress of the school. Only prescribed form, sent by SOF, had to be submitted.
Each school could nominate one girl student who has been studying in their school only from class one to class ten. She should have scored at least 60% or equivalent grade in previous class.
For nominated student, schools also had to send her previous year’s report card, certificate by the principal. However the marks criteria of 60% was not applicable to children with major physical disability.
To be accepted as being a student from economically weaker section, combined income of parents of the child should be less than Rs 15,000 per month. Recommendations had to be submitted by October 31, 2019, at the National Office of the Science Olympiad Foundation.
