After several boards including CBSE cancelled the class 10th board exams 2021, there have been several rumors and speculations about whether the Assam HSCL 2021 exams will be cancelled or postponed. Almost all major state boards have cancelled the class 10th examinations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest media reports suggest that Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will soon take a decision regarding the Matric examinations in the next 10 days. As per the schedule released, Assam HSLC exams 2021 are going to commence from May 11 in pen and paper mode and will continue till June 1, 2021.
Squashing the rumors regarding the Assam Board class 10th exams, State Education Minister also said that he has asked the board to take the final decision only after consulting with the parents and teachers. The postponement or cancellation of class 10th exams Assam Board might have a huge impact and hence he said that it is important to consult with the stakeholders before deciding to either postpone or cancel the examination.
Some newspaper reports suggest that the government will make a decision on HSLC examinations after the Rongali Bihu celebrations, whereas, as per others Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the State Education Board of Assam (SEBA) will take a decision for HSLC and HS examinations only after the new government is formed, i.e. after May 2, 2021.
Speaking to The Sentinel, Suranjana Senapati, Secretary, SEBA said that “Now that Bihu celebrations are over, we will hold a meeting with the Education Department soon in which we will review the pandemic situation and based on it will be decide the exam date for board examinations”.
During the media interaction, Mr. Sarma said that with the assembly election underway and imposition of the model code of conduct, the current government doesn’t want to take any major decision on the rescheduling of examinations.
Hence, students can expect SEBA to declare a final decision on the Matric exam dates by May 4 or 5, 2021. An official notification regarding the same will also be released by the board at its official website, sebaonline.org. However, looking at the decision taken by other state boards, it can be highly expected that the SEBA HSLC exams might get canceled and students shall be promoted to the next class, i.e standard 11 based on the internal assessment. It is advised to the students to keep visiting the SEBA official website for the latest updates on this.
Earlier, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in a press conference announced that the CBSE class 10th exams 2021 are cancelled and the students will be promoted based on the ‘objective criterion to be decided later on by the board. Furthermore, CBSE class 12th exams were also postponed which were going to start from May 4, 2021.
