Government of Himachal Pradesh announced on Monday i.e. November 23, 2020, to close all schools, colleges and education institutions till December 31, 2020. Furthermore, it has also been decided by the state government that institutions closing winter shall remain closed from January 1 to February 12, 2021. The government decided unanimously to keep education institutions closed owing to the COVID19 pandemic and the rising number of cases.
Himachal Pradesh government decided to shut down education institutions on Monday to tackle the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. This decision comes soon after the state decided to reopen schools on November 1, 2020. However, as cases started getting reported from these institutions, authorities decided to shut down schools till November 25, 2020. The pandemic has yet to subside and hence, the government decided to shut down schools till December 31, 2020.
Authorities have also decided to commence online lectures from Thursday i.e. November 26, 2020. Teachers from all state government schools have also been instructed to work from home till further orders. These online classes shall continue even after winter vacation till February 12, 2021. However, offices in high schools, senior secondary schools and colleges shall function from November 26, 2020. Principles of government schools also have the provision to call faculty-members to schools if required.
Government further announced that students in classes 1 to 4 and classes 6 and 7 shall be promoted to subsequent standards in accordance with the Right to Education Act. Final exams for classes 5 and 8 to 11 shall commence from March 2021. Furthermore, class 10 and 12 board exams shall also be conducted in March 2021 with 30% relaxation in the syllabus.

However, the number of cases surged and stood at 34,442 cases on November 24, 2020, according to the data released by the health department. The state has recorded 6,5365 cases in November as opposed to 2,880 in October 2020. To curb the COVID19 cases in the state, authorities have also imposed night curfew in four districts namely Mandi, Shimla, Kullu and Kangra between from November 24 till December 15, 2020. Moreover, only Class 3 and Class 4 employees shall be permitted to attend offices till December 31, 2020.
