Rajasthan Public Service Commission has postponed the examination for the recruitment of School Lecturer in the Sanskrit Education Department. A press note released at the official RPSC website earlier this week has announced that the recruitment examination, scheduled to be conducted between May 11 to 14, 2020 has been indefinitely postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. Although the press note released at rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in did not cite any formal reason, it is anticipated that the obvious reason for deferment is the widespread outbreak of the COVID-19 virus which has pushed the nation to go into a complete socio-economic lockdown.

RPSC, the apex government recruitment agency in the state of Rajasthan issued the official notice of recruitment of School Lecturers in the Sanskrit Education Department in 2018. Although at that time the Commission advertised the recruitment event for 134 vacancies, it reopened the application window in January 2020 and increased the number of vacancies to 264. Accordingly, the Commission also announced that the recruitment examination for the advertised vacancies would be conducted from May 11 to 14, 2020. However, as per the latest notice released by the Commission regarding the exam, it stands postponed until further orders are issued in this regard. For the convenience of our readers, we extracted a snapshot of the press release from the official RPSC website and provided it here.
One cannot overlook the fact that the Commission has not yet issued any admit card for the exam. The admit cards are conventionally issued through the official website before the exam. Applicants awaiting the admit cards can anticipate a delay in their issuance too. Moreover, the press release does not mention any rescheduled dates for conducting the exam neither indicates an ongoing process to reschedule the exam. As such, it is quite uncertain as to when the exams might be rescheduled by the RPSC.
Although RPSC has chosen to remain silent in the context of citing a cause of the postponement, it is understandable that the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in India is the fundamental cause of the deferment. RPSC, however, is not the first government recruiter to postpone or cancel recruitment events in 2020. A number of other states and central government recruitment agencies, including the various public service commissions, have deferred events w.r.t the government ordered lockdown till May 03, 2020. In this stage, it is hard to comment as to when situations might get restored, and when the lockdown can be removed. Therefore, applicants are advised to monitor the official website of the Commission at rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in to get any further updates.
