The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) and Osmania University (OU) will now be introducing a three-year BA (Honours) programme from the academic year 2021-22. This decision came after recognizing the need for highly focused and strong subject content based inputs in the degree level programmes. After holding detailed deliberations and consultation with all the stakeholders and domain experts, both TSCHE and OU have designed the three-year unique programme. The programme is said to benefit the aspiring and young students of Telangana.
From the academic year 2021-22, this three-year BA programme is going to be introduced in the constituent colleges of Osmania University, namely the University College for Women, Koti and Nizam College. The programme has been launched today, i.e. September 21, 2021 by Sri. B. Vinod Kumar, Vice-chairman of Telangana State Planning Board at the University College for Women, Koti. It was launched along with TSCHE and OU.
The proposal of clustering colleges under the Osmania University jurisdiction has been framed. However, the modalities for the same have been worked out at a joint meeting held today by officials like the Chairman of TSCHE and Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University along with other senior officials and administrators.
University College for Women and Nizam College are among the constituent colleges of the university. In addition to these, University College of Science, University PG College and PG College of Law Basheerbagh fall into this category. These colleges have different academic programmes. Other than that, OU has a host of affiliated colleges, the list of which is available on the official website – osmania.ac.in.
Osmania University has eight campus colleges that are located within the university campus. Altogether, these colleges have 53 departments. Some of these colleges are University College of Arts and Social Sciences, University College of Law, University College of Technology, University College of Commerce and Business Management, etc. In terms of courses, OU offers 69 postgraduate programmes in the campus colleges. PG programmes are available for subjects like Arabic, English, Tamil, Telegu, Statistics, Nano Science, Applied Geology, Pharmacy, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Technology, etc. among a pool of other subjects.
Similarly, the University offers 34 M. Phil courses in the campus colleges. M. Phil programmes are available for subjects like English, Marathi, Persian, Sociology, Psychology, Management Studies, Statistics, etc. Even for Ph. D programmes, a list of 54 subjects is available that can be accessed from OU’s official website – osmania.ac.in. These courses have varying details and eligibility criteria as per the faculties.
