Joining other states, Odisha has also decided to keep the safety and well-being of the students at priority. Doing so, the state has decided to postponed class 10th and 12th board exams. Apart from this, students in class 9th and 11th will be directly promoted to next class without the exams. The students will be marked on the basis of their internal assessment exams.
Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, was supposed to conduct the class 10th exam from May 3 to 15, 2021, whereas, the class 12th exams will be held from May 15 to June 11, 2021. However, this stands suspended until further notice.
The announcement to postpone the exam was made by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after reviewing the coronavirus situation in the state. The active cases in the state have crossed 14,000-mark recently, which is a troublesome state.
The CM also stated that the government will make a decision on conducting the examinations after reviewing the pandemic situation in the first week of June. “The students will be given adequate time before the examinations,” he said in a statement.
The CM also directed the suspension of all classes for the academic session of 2021-22. Also, all government, private and aided schools in Odisha will not be allowed to hold physical classes till April 30, 2021. Hostels are to be shut down from April 19. No educational activity can be taken up on school campuses.
Odisha is facing rising positive cases of COVID-19. The total cases have crossed 3 lakhs and around 2000 new cases are being witnessed per day. Sundargarh is the worst affected district, with 631 persons testing positive for the coronavirus. Khordha district followed, with 438 persons testing positive.
Odisha Board was established in the year 1953, the aim of the entity is to control and conduct the secondary education of Odisha state. It also devised syllabus and curriculum for the classes. The functions of the Board also include making course of studies, text books, teaching materials etc, issue certificates of the examinations etc. The Odisha Board of Secondary Education (BSE) conducts the class 10th board examination and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) is in charge of the Class 12 examination.
