NTA to Conduct JEE Main and NEET Again in December 2018?

While the engineering and medical aspirants around the nation prepare to participate in counselling, the news of JEE Main and NEET to be conducted again is making rounds. There are numerous news reports, claiming that National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Main and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test again in the month of December 2018.

Latest: An old RTI clarifies whether NEET and JEE will be held in December 2018 or not. Find out here.

The task of providing technical support to NTA has been assigned to Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. The exam pattern and syllabus will remain the same for both the upcoming examinations.

The reports also hint that both the examination will be held in online mode. Until now, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted both the exams. JEE Main is already conducted in online mode, along with the pen and paper exam. However, the national level medical entrance test has always been held in offline mode. If the reports stand valid, the medical aspirant needs to prepare well for the online exam. Even the engineering aspirants who were planning to take the exam in pen and paper mode will have to learn taking the exam in system and mark answers with the cursor.

So, is the news true?

JEE Main is a national level entrance exam, conducted for admission in B.Tech, B.E, B.Arch, and B.Plan courses. NIT, IIITs, CFTIs, and other private institutes consider the score of JEE for admission. It also serves as eligibility criteria for IIT-JEE exam.

NEET is also held at national level and is the single admission test to fill MBBS and BDS seats in India.

Official notification regarding the same has not been released yet. News reports have confirmed the news as it ensured that IIT Kanpur Director, Professor Abhay Karandikar, has made a statement regarding the same. As per the news reports below, he told that the team of the experts for the conduct of the exams has been formulated. The preperation has also started and since IIT-K conducted JEE Advanced 2018 they also have the experience to hold the exam.

Arun Jaitley confirmed foundation of NTA in Union Budget 2018. The purpose of building the Agency is to prepare a body solely dedicated to conducting the entrance exams. It is intended to reduce glitches and irregularities in the examination.

As per the PTI report, NTA will first take over the exams conducted by CBSE and later on by AICTE and other bodies. The exams will be held twice a year in online mode, but if it will be held in December 2018 or not is not confirmed. NTA is also expected to nurture the needs of the rural students by establishing centres at sub-district / district level and by proving hands-on training.

Usually, the application form for JEE Main and NEET are released in the month of December and January, respectively. However, if NTA will conduct the exam again by the end of this year than it is expected to be available by September or October end.

The conduct of the exams again will be beneficial for those candidates who were not able to secure a seat this time. Candidates who could not appear for the exam due to class 12th examination will also get an opportunity to crack the exam and not wait until next April and May.

We will keep track of the matter and as soon as any latest advancement is reported on it, will inform you. What is your take on this? Is it beneficial if NTA will conduct JEE Main and NEET in December 2018? Or is it an unfair move? Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.

I want to know that if neet will be conducted in December then when councelling will be done and when college will start? If the colleges will start in the month of august- September as usual then the student can prepare for neet for month of May. So what is the advantage of neet in December?
