The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has cancelled the On-demand Examinations (ODE) 2021 for both theory and practicals. The decision of scrapping the ODE examinations is taken in view of the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the country. Earlier, these on-demand exams were to be held in April-May 2021, which later postponed.

“The ODE examination was to be held from 19th April to 31st May 2021, stands cancelled in view of the prevailing situation of COVID-19 pandemic in the country and taking account of the safety of the learners,” the official notice reads.

According to the notice, the result of the ODE exams 2021 will be declared on objective criteria. “The learners who have already registered for the ODE examination for the said period (April-May 2021) will be computed by the same objective criteria being adopted by the NIOS for Class 10th and Class 12th public examination scheduled for June 2021 and were cancelled earlier,” it added. The National Institute has also formed a committee to look after the objective criteria of assessment for the results.

Earlier, on 4th June NIOS cancelled the Secondary and Sr. Secondary public examinations scheduled for June 2021 in pretext to the guidelines from the Ministry of Education. The decision was taken in view of the safety of the students. “Keeping the safety and security of our students on priority, NIOS cancels class 12 examinations. Students will be evaluated based on objective criteria to be announced soon. This will benefit around 1.75 Lakhs students,” the Union Education Minister tweeted on public exams.

NIOS works on the concept of holding On-Demand Examination (ODE) at the Secondary Level since 2003 in the area of its feasibility and operationalization. The novel concept of ODE makes the total system of examination independent of the time frame and helps the student to take up the examinations as per their wish and preparation. The basic concept of On-Demand Examination is that NIOS student can walk into the examination center as and when he/she feel ready for the examination.
