Whenever the question on JEE Main 2021 and NEET 2021 dates surfaced, one of the explanations cited was that dates will depend on class 12 board exam schedule. But now that the CBSE class 12 board exams have been cancelled, what will be the exam dates for these 2 national level entrance exams?

Since the class 12 boards of CBSE and CISCE are cancelled, one factor that led to uncertainty in JEE and NEET 2021 exam date till now is eliminated. Thus, the dates of these 2 exams can be expected soon. Due to the pandemic, JEE Main 2021 April and May session has been postponed. Also, there is no update for NEET 2021 since March 2021. The NEET-UG 2021 exam, if it is not postponed, will be conducted on August 1, 2021, as per the available official date.

However, it seems that these 2 exams will be postponed. This is because many state boards will be holding the class 12 exams, even though central boards have cancelled the exams. Since NEET and JEE are national-level examinations, the state boards cannot be overlooked. In both NEET and JEE Main, the candidates are 10+2 qualified / qualifying students from all over the nation.

States like West Bengal, Assam, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Punjab, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka have not cancelled the class 12 board exams. Class 12 exams in these boards are postponed as of now, although a final call is expected from these states too soon.

On the other hand, the states that have cancelled their class 12 boards are Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Haryana.

On the other hand, the state of Chhattisgarh has started the class 12th board exams following a home based test model. As per this model, students no longer have to appear for the exam at the examination centers but can appear for the exams from their homes. Students will need to report at the specified centers to collect their question papers and answer sheets from June 1, 2021. After this, they need to attempt the exams from home and submit the answer sheets within five days’ time. For example, if a student receives their question paper on June 2, then they will need to submit the answer copies on June 7, 2021.
