NCTE Proposes 4 year Integrated Teacher Education Program for 12th Pass Candidates

NCTE Proposes 4 year Integrated Teacher Education Program

National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) proposes to launch a new programme for teacher education. The new programme on the table is known as the Integrated Teacher Education Programme  (ITEP). It is a four-year teacher training programme for the upcoming academic session 2019-23. The course is open to open for Arts/ Science stream candidates who have a minimum of 50% of marks in their 12th standard.

What is ITEP?

ITEP is one of the initiatives by NCTE which aims to bring a qualitative change in the teacher training for the better schools system. It also focuses to assimilate best practices of teacher education in the world. The programme offers a curriculum that has a fine balance of theory and practice. It will imbibe the students with quality education and training in liberal disciplines of knowledge and field of education. The major subjects in the programme will include Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Humanities etc.

ITEP Programme in Glance

#1. It is four year integrated programme ie Graduation+Teacher Training.
#2. Seat Intake – 50
#3. Selection Process – Merit Basis
#4.Fees – According to the norms of a particular institute.
#5. Working Hours – 40 in a week

The ITEP will consist of eight semesters including field-based work experience and internship. In case, a student could not able to appear for any particular semester, then candidates have the option to complete the course within 6 years from the date of admission. In the whole curriculum, there will be at least 125 working days in each semester. For this new programme, there shall be an intake of 50 students of either Arts or Science stream.

The admission to this course shall be based on merit basis. The scores of senior secondary or the equivalent entrance examination will be taken into consideration. It will depend on the policy of University or State Government or Union Territory Administration. At the time of admission, candidates have to choose B.A or B.Sc Degree according to their choice.

Registration for ITEP

The candidates’ registration for this course will be announced later. Though the online application is available until December 31, 2018, for the composite institutes. The higher education institute which offers under-graduate or post-graduate can register for the new programme. After the completion of the institute’s registration process, the list will be updated on the official website for the eligible institution.

About NCTE

NCTE is a statuary body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It was established in 1973 under an Act of Parliament (73 of 1993). The body aims to bring co-ordinated development in the teaching education throughout the country except for Jammu and Kashmir. It trains interested person in pre-primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary stages. It also offers non-formal, part-time, adult education, and distance (correspondence) education courses.

I studied from Kanpur university. I want to do B’ed from ignou but there is eligibility criteria 2 years of E.T.T. course nd NCTE approved certificate .that I don’t have .so kindly guide me, What option for me for distance B’ed ??     What about those who are doing their graduation and are thinking of doing B ed after that?…. Of course nobody is going to do graduation again just to get this course added to our qualification !!
