Recently, at the Convocation Ceremony of D.Y Patil University, Union Minister of MHRD, Shri Prakash Javdekar spoke openly about the Indian education system and its reforms. He said that “Educational infrastructure is being expanded and reformed to take the nation forward”. For the benefit of the New India, HRD Ministry is taking necessary decisions to make it sustainable. He also exclaimed that “New India should be free of corruption, uncleanliness, terrorism, poverty, communalism and casteism.” And this is only possible when we all are together in this! These are the achievements, brought to our notice while addressing the graduating students and their parents.

#1 Increased GDP Rate

Explaining the current scenario, the Minister said that it becomes our priority to allot at least 6% of GDP to the education sector. And that he is elated to share, from an expenditure of 3.8% of GDP in 2014 to 4.6% of GDP in the current year, the records have shown progress! This progress is intended to touch 6% of GDP soon.

#2 Improved Educational Facility

Other than the progress seen in the sense of GDP, he says the Ministry is making continuous efforts to improve the educational amenities within the country. So as to increase the scope of learning and to make education within everyone’s reach, 7 new IITs, 7 new IIMs, 2 new NITs, 3 Central Universities and around 125 Kendriya Vidyalayas have been started.

#3 Swayam Learning Portal

The progress has been made possible because of the advancement of some self-learning portals like Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM). This initiative was taken by the Government of India attain the 3 principles of the Education policy, namely access, equity and quality. Currently, this portal offers 2,000 courses and a candidate can make use of these study material for any time and that too, for free! Each of the courses offered is taught by experienced teachers and candidates can make use of discussion forums and educational materials. Also, one can appear for examinations and get certifications, regarding same.

Other than SWAYAM portal, candidates are encouraged to pursue a variety of courses under the Choice-based credit system (CBCS) has been started in different colleges.

#4 Educational Channels

Along with these reforms, 32 educational channels have also been started, in this year. These channels can be accessed in the Doordarshan Dish. Another than this, IIT PAL (Professor Assisted Learning) has also been started with the aim to make coaching for IIT-JEE, all for free! Saving lakhs and lakhs of money, candidates have been said to have truly blessed with these educational channels! It could be seen that to encourage unity, the Government has decided to apply same rules across its 900 universities, 40,000 colleges and 4 crore students. Introduction of Graded economy has helped immensely to change the condition of the nation, and thereby ensuring quality education for all!

#5 Integrated research, teaching and industry

Introduction of Atal Tinkering Labs across 5,000 schools has lead to the promotion of research and innovation. With the help of ATL, a candidate is motivated to use advanced facilities such as 3-D printing, robotics, Artificial Intelligence tools such as the Internet of Things. Its application is extended to all Class 6-10 students. Other than this edge, similar initiatives in humanities, arts, technology, basic sciences and social sciences fields have also been implemented.
