The Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) is conducted every year to determine merit for candidates who want to pursue B.Tech, B.E, B.Arch, B.Planning courses. While the exam is a direct gateway for admissions to NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and eligibility for IITs entrance exam, many other engineering institutes provide admissions on the basis of JEE Main scores. A lot of new information has come to light in the last 24 hours regarding this national level engineering entrance exam.
JEE Main 2022 will be held two times instead of 4
Last year, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the JEE exam was conducted 4 times, and candidates were given the opportunity to sit for the exam at their convenience. But in a surprising turn of events, the conducting body of JEE Mains, National Testing Agency (NTA), has decided to reduce the number of times the exam will be held this year to 2. The exam is expected to be conducted in April and May.
According to the reports, the decision has been made, taking into consideration the improved situation of the pandemic. The decision follows the delay in the conduct of other exams, which restricts the number of JEE Main attempts. However, aspirants have taken to social media to voice their concerns and objections against the ‘unjust decision‘. The aspirants are in favor of holding JEE Mains 4 times, as it gave them better scope and chances to ace the exam. It may be noted that until 2018, the JEE Main exam was conducted only once every year. In 2019, the number of times were increased to 2, and then to 4 last year.
75% criteria to be removed this session too?
Usually, NTA prescribes that candidates should secure at least 75% marks in class 12 exams to be eligible for admissions. For SC/ ST candidates, the minimum prescribed class 12 marks is 65%. That is, if the candidates are qualified to get admitted to NITs or are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam based on their JEE Main score, then it is mandatory that they satisfy this 75% eligibility criteria. However, this criterion was scrapped last year, in light of the COVID situation. But this year, no announcements regarding the same have been made. Candidates are demanding that the 75% criteria be removed this year also. This will give the aspirants better chances in securing admissions to NITs and IIITs, and will also relieve them of the stress.
