The Indian Embassy in Ukraine has issued an important advisory to the Indian nationals who are living in Ukraine owing to the war-like situation. The advisory has been issued today, i.e. February 24, 2022 keeping in mind the present situation in the country. Moreover, the Indians have been advised to remain calm and safe wherever they are. After Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation against the country, the fear of a bigger conflict is now looming at large. As per official sources, India is now monitoring the situation in Ukraine and is finding ways to help out Indians.

Through its advisory, the Indian Embassy has asked the Indian students, especially to remain safe wherever they are. They should be in their homes, hostels, accommodations or even transit. Moreover, the ones who are travelling to Kyiv have been advised to return to their respective cities temporarily. This should also be followed by the ones who are travelling from the western parts of Kyiv. As per the advisory, individuals should move towards safer places along the western bordering countries.

Reactions

People have reached out via Twitter and requested the Embassy to take necessary measures for the evacuation of the Indian students. As understood from the tweets, more than 20 thousand of them are staying in Ukraine. Stakeholders have also requested the Indian students to send messages seeking help. They will inform the Government of India so that necessary measures can be taken in due time to evacuate them.

At this point, the present situation in the country can be deemed ‘uncertain’. Hours ago, Ukraine declared a state of emergency and has summoned its citizens. Reportedly, due to the closure of the Ukraine airspace, there seems to be no possibility for sending a special aircraft for evacuating the Indians who are stuck there. The country has closed the airspace for civilian flights. According to a source, the Indian government is now looking at ways for assisting the Indians. Reports also say that several diplomatic meetings are underway to assess the changing situation.

After Russian President Putin announced a military operation against Ukraine, the entire social situation in the country is seen to have deteriorated. This has now triggered major concerns over the possibility of an extensive military confrontation between Russia and Ukraine. Earlier, the Indian Embassy had asked the Indian students to leave the country temporarily due to the escalating tensions between the two countries. It also asked the family members of its staff to return to India. Russia has reportedly deployed over 130,000 soldiers, fighter jets, and heavy weapons around Ukraine’s border.
