IIT Kharagpur To Launch M.Tech Programme in Safe Mining; Know Career Options

IIT Kharagpur is all set to launch the MTech programme in ‘Safety, Health, and Environment’. The course is going to be launched under the department of mining engineering. The course offered by IIT Kharagpur will offer knowledge about the safety measures in mining operations. With an intake capacity of 11, the course will start from the July semester.

A holistic approach towards safety and health in the workplace is the need of the day, especially in India, where we think safety is somebody else’s job,” – Prof Debasis Deb, head of the department of mining.

As per Baijendra Kumar, CMD, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), the course will bring the course will ensure thrive for the industry. As per the scheduled date for the start i.e July semester, students will be informed subsequently about the details of the course on the official website http://www.iitkgp.ac.in.

All About M.Tech – Safe Mining

It is a postgraduate course popular among the students for the high quality of learning opportunities in Health, Safety, and Environmental Engineering. The course specifically teaches the students the preventative techniques against regional and industrial pollution and more. In-depth study on hazardous air pollutants, hazardous waste treatment, noise and vibration and much more will be offered by IIT Kharagpur.

The course offers skills to control environmental pollution and hygiene maintenance and industrial safety eventually encouraging healthy lifestyles. Socially excluded people experiencing a crisis will be given the assistance of the specialists of this field.

Career Options After MTech programme in ‘Safety, Health and Environment’

After the completion of the course, the students can get jobs in Government sector, the private sector and also in Universities and Colleges. However, for the posting of a permanent lecturer, candidates will have to clear the UGC-NET exam.

More precisely, on the basis of the knowledge gained students can become Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Engineer, Pollution Control (Air, Water & Soil) Officer, Consultant in HSE, Safety Auditor, Health investigator, Health Planner, Environmental Health and Safety Manager etc. Candidates can get work at NGO’s, Forest and Wildlife management boards, Pollution control boards, Urban Planning Bodies and also public institutions and Private industries and firms, Teaching etc.

Besides M.Tech Programme in Safe Mining, IIT Kharagpur also provides admission to these PG courses – Joint MTech / MCP (City Planning)-PhD, Joint MSc-PhD (Entrance through JAM), MBA, EMBA, Masters Program in Medical Science and Technology (MMST) and Masters Program in Law (LL.M).
