Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has for the first time in the institute’s history, announced the commencement of the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) programme 2022-2023 session. This decision was announced after the approval of the Board of Governors. The institute already has its own dedicated department of Design established in 2017. So, the B.Des. programme for the upcoming academic session will begin under the ambit of this department. Officials have also clarified that this UG programme will comprise 20 seats in the initial stage and will entertain students from all specialisations including arts, science and commerce.
Recently, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay opened the registration process for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) 2022. So, students interested in pursuing B.Des. at IIT Delhi must register for the UCEED examination. To do so, they must fill and submit the online application form on the official website uceed.iitb.ac.in. The deadline to complete the online formalities without any late fee charges is October 10, 2021.
While announcing the introduction of this programme, Prof V Ramgopal Rao, the director of IIT Delhi, expressed his delight about the Bachelor’s programme in Design at the Institute. This is for the first time in History that IIT Delhi would be admitting students from streams other than Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
The director hopes to see B.Des pass out from the institute to establish themselves in the market and take up key leadership positions in various facets of the world – academia, industry, government, entrepreneurship, consulting and many more. Of course, this is not an overnight event but will occur over a period of time.
Prof Rao further implied that apart from the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) degree, various other programmes are in progress at IIT Delhi. All these qualifications will be introduced gradually into the system with an aim to overcome the huge gap between the design and supply verticals of India. The country is in dire need of qualified and creative professionals to boost its creative economy.
According to IIT Bombay’s official website, UCEED 2022 is all set to be conducted on January 23, 2022, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Although the registration process (without late fee) will end on October 10, 2021, candidates will receive another 7 days extra to submit their applications. However, during this period, they will have to render additional charges along with the prescribed registration fee. Hence, candidates are advised to complete their application formalities as soon as possible to avoid paying the extra charges.
