The Gujarat Government has decided to mass promote std 10th students studying under Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB).
In view of the second wave of COVID-19, Vijay Rupani, CM of Gujarat has cancelled GSEB SSC Exam 2021. Now, over 8.72 regular 10th students will be promoted to Class 11th without examination. However, the State has not come up with any decision of Class 12th Examinations.

CM of Gujarat on Thursday took to Twitter to share the news of the mass promotion of Class 10th students. He shared a tweet discussing that “The State Took an Important decision today in the wider interest of Class 10th SSC Students”. To this, he further added that the Core Committee held a meeting in which they discussed the current situation of COVID-19 in the state. They have come up with the decision of “mass promotion of regular students in class 10th this year”.
What is the meaning of mass promotion?
The technical definition of mass promotion is “Mass Promotion is the policy of promoting students to the next grade level. despite of poor achievement at their current grade level“.
Basically it means that students will be promoted without exams.
It is however, not clear, whether any student will be provided grades or any such marks based on internals like other boards are doing. This will probably be clear in the coming days. As of now, students can heave a sigh of relief that they do not have to worry about exams amidst the pandemic.
The decision taken by the core committee chaired by Vijay Rupani will be applicable to all government, grant-in-aid and private schools affiliated to the State Board. As the vaccination of Class 10th students is not yet done, it is beneficial that the students are restricted from taking the exam. Thus, the State Government have decided to cancel the exam and mass promote students in the view of “wider health interest of the students”. The Education Minister also shared that the decision will benefit regular students of 1276 Government schools, 4331 private schools, 5325 grants in aid and other 45 schools.
However, class 10th repeaters are not covered under this announcement. All the candidates who are reappearing for the class 10th examination are exempted from the mass promotion said Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Education Minister of Gujarat. As per the resources, the number of private students and repeaters is estimated at 3.63 lakhs. The examination for these candidates will take place once the COVID-19 situation is under control.
Moreover, the Government has not shared any detail about the Gujarat Class 12th Boards Exam 2021. On April 15, 2021, The State Government has announced the postponement of the Class 10th and Class 12th boards examination. Now that the class 10th students are being promoted, Class 12th students are apprehensive about their examination. The Education Minister, when asked about the mass promotion of class 12th, said that the exam for class 12 will take place for sure. However, the decision is still pending.
Earlier, The State Government has announced that no examination will be organized for students of Class 1 to Class 9 and Class 11th students. They will also be promoted to the next classes without any examination.
