The official website of GATE 2020 online application processing system (GOAPS), at appsgate.iitd.ac.in is down at the moment. It is showing 503 service unavailable error. The GOAPS is the single point to register for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, fill the application form, pay fee, and submit it. Aspirants are hence, unable to apply for the exam right now.
What is 503 Service Unavailable – No server is available to handle this request?
The 503 HTTP status is displayed on a website when for any reason, the server is not responding. It could be due to too much traffic on the website, or simply the website could be down due to maintenance. It is a server side problem, and hence anyone who tries to access the website from any place will face it; it is not a user specific problem caused by internet connection or browser.
What next? How to fill GATE 2020 form now?
Candidates can try to access the website in some time. It is relevant to note that the other official pages of GATE 2020, like gate.iitd.ac.in are still working. Thus those who are looking for information on the exam like important dates, brochure, FAQs can go through that website. However those who need to register for the exam or complete their application forms, will need to wait a little while.
There is no message by IIT Delhi, the organizing body of GATE 2020, on why the site is down. However it is expected to be in the notice of the body that the HTTP error is being shown on the site and they will work on it to remove it at the earliest. Change or extension in registration dates due to this hiccup are not as such anticipated, however if there is any, then the same will be notified on the official website once it is up and running.
GOAPS was launched on September 3. Last date to apply through it, is September 24. The extended closing date for submission of online application form is October 1. Candidates who successfully submit their forms may also request exam city changes by November 15.
The GOAPS is critical for GATE 2020 applicants as the admit card, and the results are also released here. Basically the system acts as the micro site for the exam takers to go through all the events of the exam one by one.
Whenever a GATE official website has gone down in the past, it has usually been brought back online in a very short period of time. The same is expected to happen this time as well with appsgate.iitd.ac.in.
Every year a different Indian Institute of Technology conducts the GATE exam. For the exam for admission in academic session 2020-21 it is IIT Delhi. Last year it was IIT Madras, and IIT Guwahati held the exam the year before.
