GATE 2022 Topper Tips

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur) is all set to conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) 2022 examination on February 05, 06, 12 and 13, 2022, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The postgraduate entrance exam will be held at selected centres across the country through the computer-based format. Admit cards for the same will be released on the official website gate.iitkgp.ac.in on January 03, 2022. Once releasse, candidates are advised to download or take a printout of their admit cards well-in advance before the exam.

As of now, students have more than three months to prepare for GATE 202 examination. There are a number of preparation strategies and study-plans available online. With such abundant information at the tip of one’s hand, candidates can get confused about the strategy or preparation plan to follow. To make things simple, following are some useful tips which have been “tried & tested” by previous-year GATE toppers –

# Don’t have the mindset that GATE is difficult.

Unlike popular understanding, GATE examination is simple to crack and ace. Only if a candidate has conceptual clarity and has genuinely prepared well for the exam. However, preparing with this notion that GATE 2022 is going to be a herculean exam to clear then it will reflect in the marks. Conversely, considering it too simple will lead to complacency. Rather than thinking about the difficulty level, candidates must focus on the preparation aspect. The more thoroughly and earnestly a candidate prepares, the better he/she will perform. This is the GOLDEN RULE to follow.

# Follow the “ONLY ONE” rule

While preparing for each subject in GATE 2022, use only ONE reference book or faculty book, ONE workbook and ONE book for previous-year questions. The market is concentrated with heaps of notes, worksheets and question papers. Rather than preparing well, a candidate will get thoroughly confused and overwhelmed by the abundant resources at his disposal. So, always follow the “ONLY ONE” rule.

# Revise rather than searching for other sources

After finishing a GATE 2022 workbook or question paper, candidates may tend to search for other books or MCQs to refer to. While this habit is not entirely wrong, it’s not necessary either. Instead, spend this time revising the existing study material and questions to get a firmer grip on the GATE 2022 syllabus. The key is to revise the syllabus rather than solving incessant questions without any motive.

# Follow the DUAL system – one hard chapter clubbed with an easy one

During preparation or revision of entire syllabus, club two chapters together and revise them. For example, candidates can combine “signals” and “systems” together and decide 10-15 days revising them. Afterwards, they can club “communication” systems with “digital electronics” and revise them together.

# Start solving chapter-specific tests

After revising two chapters at a time, start solving chapter-specific mock exams. These will help candidates recollect all the concepts and formulae that they revised in those two chapters. Moreover, part-syllabus tests provide an idea of the kind of questions to expect in the GATE 2022 examination.

# Never miss a single mock exam.

In case of mock exams, the phrase “more the merrier” holds true. The number of mock tests sincerely solved and analysed ultimately decides the performance of any candidate in the GATE examination. Moreover, they also help candidates get into the exam grid by forcing them to solve questions in a time-bound manner. Hence, the most important tip is to never miss a mock exam.
