CISCE Imputed

Council For the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is all set to announce the ICSE or class 10 and ISC or class 12 board exams results tomorrow, July 24, 2021. In the official notice released by the board, it says “Recheck of answer scripts is not applicable for the ICSE, ISC year 2021 examinations as the candidates have been awarded imputed marks“. Students of board are trying to understand what this means.

Results will be declared at 3:00 pm on two official websites cisce.org and results.cisce.org. Press release announcing the result date and time was published today, July 23, 2021, on the official website by CISCE authorities. An interesting term was used in the press release called “imputed marks”. According to the notice, there will be no rechecking of answer scripts this year as students have been given imputed marks. Less than a day for the results to come out and this term is creating confusion among students.

What does the term “imputed marks” means?

Every year, CISCE conducts full-fledged written exams for Class 10 and 12 students. Based on their performance in these exams and in the remaining academic year, CISCE releases the results. However, this year, the situation is very different. CISCE was to conduct the Class 12 board exams from April 08 to June 18, 2021. The ICSE Class 10 exams were scheduled from May 04 to June 07, 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these exams were cancelled.

Instead of performance in theory exams, students have now been evaluated based on certain objective criteria. These criteria include marks scores in Class 10, 11 and internal assessments in Class 12. All these marks have been pre-recorded and already sent to the board authorities for computing results. These marks are termed as “imputed marks”.

There is no question of rechecking any answer scripts as marks have already been allotted to students. Results will be curated based on these pre-recorded marks. Therefore, unlike previous years when CISCE used to give the option of re-evaluation of answer sheets, the facility will not be available this year.

The general language definition of the term imputed is “assigned to something by inference from the value of the products or processes to which it contributes; estimated.“

Instead, there is dispute resolution mechanism for CISCE Board exam results 2021.

CISCE authorities have released the dispute resolution facility solely for correction in calculation errors. Therefore, if a student wants to raise objections against the marks obtained, he/she is required to follow certain procedures. Accordingly, the student must send a written application to his/her school, stating the objections clearly along with proper reasons to justify them. The respective school is required to review all the received applications.

In case it is satisfied with the objections, the school must provide suitable remarks and mail it across to the CISCE authorities. For ICSE applications, the official email ID is [email protected] In case of ISC applications, the email ID is [email protected] these requests must be sent to the board latest by August 01, 2021. Thereafter, the board shall review these applications and inform the respective head of school, if any alternations are needed.

In simple terms, students will not get any re-evaluation facility this year. In case of any calculation errors, students are free to resort to the dispute resolution mechanism to get the issue resolved.
