Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is yet to take a decision on the Indian School Certificate or Class 12 board exams. Furthermore, they are yet to announce the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) or Class 10 results. On April 20, 2021, CISCE decided to postpone Class 12 board exams due to the rising COVID19 cases. Similar to CBSE, it decided on cancelling the Class 10 exams and instead, evaluate their results based on unbiased criteria. Since then, there has been no update on the CISCE exams front.
On Sunday, May 23, 2021, Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ organised a virtual meeting with the state education ministers and education secretaries. In the meeting, various proposals and alternatives were discussed regarding the Class 12 board exams. From the meeting, it was clear that CBSE is expected to conduct the Class 12 board in due course of time. A final decision on the same and a new exam schedule is awaited.
According to reports and looming speculations, it is expected that CISCE shall follow the footsteps of CBSE and conduct the Class 12 board exams. During the postponement announcement at the beginning of May 04, 2021, CISCE did state that a decision on the Class 12 exams shall be taken in the first week of June 2021. This shall be done after taking cognisance of the coronavirus situation in the country.
As the first week of June 2021 is approaching, there are high chances of CISCE conducting the exam. It is only a matter of when they shall be held. Under the current circumstances, India has started showing signs of stability in terms of the second wave of coronavirus. If stability sustains, chances are that the CISCE shall conduct the Class 12 Board exams in the month of July or August 2021, around the same time as CBSE. However, official authorities are yet to make an announcement in this regard.
During the announcement of exam postponement, CISCE instructed all the affiliated schools across India to begin the Class 11 admissions as soon as possible. Class 10 exams for the current academic year were declared cancelled. Class 10 students were to be evaluated based on their Class 9 performance and Class 10 internal exams in each subject. Specific criteria were to be formulated to evaluate students in a fair manner.
Class 10 students were given clarity on their academics on the day of cancellation announcement. However, since then, there has been no intimation from the CISCE board. The ICSE Class 10 results for the academic year 2020-21 are yet to be announced. As the month of May 2021 is almost over, chances are that the Class 10 results shall be declared in June 2021.
