Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) has announced evaluation criteria for class 10 students. Since the board has decided to scrap the exams, the students will be promoted to next class on the basis of performance in the internal assessment.
Due to the second outbreak of COVID, not all the students were able to appear for the practical exams. Hence, the board has also decided to pass those students who did not appear for the practical exam. Such students will be given a minimum passing marks.
Secretary of Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education, VK Goyal, has also told media houses that students who were not able to complete the assignment work or secure the minimum marks shall also be promoted to class 11.
He also added that if a student is not satisfied with the marks allotted on the basis of internal assessment then they will be given one opportunity to appear for the exam. However, the dates and details of these exams shall only be confirmed once the COVID condition in the state gets better.
To make the assessment feasible, the students will be awarded a minimum of 72 to 75 marks, in each theory subject. As for the practical exams, 68 to 70 marks will be awarded. Lastly, in the additional subjects, students shall get a minimum of 29 to 30 marks.
Chhattisgarh Board has also taken decision for open school students. The open school students shall also be given a minimum passing marks in the practical and project work and will be promoted to next class. These students shall also be given one opportunity to appear in the exam, if not satisfied with the assessment. The exams for these students will also be held after situation normalizes the state.
The board has taken all the decision in the wake of worsening COVID situation in the state. The health and safety of the students has been kept as priority and so they have not been called to appear for the exam. The official notice, with details of the assessment criteria shall be out soon. The board will provide it to maintain transparency in the process.
Chhattisgarh board was to conduct CGBSE class 10 exam from April 15 to May 01, 2021. However, the exams had to be cancelled due to increasing COVID cases in the state. The board has also postponed the exams for class 12th. The verdict on class 12th board exams new dates is expected to be announced later on.
Apart from Chhattisgarh, a lot of state is adopting internal assessment as substitute for exams. Even CBSE has decided to pass class 10 students on the basis of internal assessment.
