Central Board of Secondary Education has published sample paper for class 10 social science subject for the upcoming board exams 2020. CBSE class 10 social science sample paper 2020 is available for download at cbseacademic.nic.in, along with its marking scheme. All questions will be from the syllabus aka curriculum of social science, code 087, also available on the same website.
In CBSE class 10 exams, each subject is worth 100 marks. For social science, the board exam will be of 80 marks, and 20 marks will be awarded on the basis of internal assessment. While the distribution of 80 marks are clear through the sample paper, the curriculum describes internal marking. As per the curriculum, 20 marks of internal assessment will be split into three components – periodic assessment of 10 marks, portfolio of 5 marks, and subject enrichment activity of 5 marks. The first component will further be divided into 5 marks for pen paper test and 5 marks for assessments using other strategies like discussion, quizzes and so on.

As per the CBSE class 10 social science sample paper 2020, there will be 35 questions of 80 marks. In the sample paper, there are four sections A, B, C, D.
Section A constitutes question numbers 1 to 20 with objective type questions, each of 1 mark. They can be match the columns, multiple choice questions, one word or short answer type questions, fill in the blanks, arrange the sequences and such questions.
Then section B has question numbers 21 to 28 of 3 marks each. They will have to be answered in around 80 words each.
Thereafter section C includes question numbers 29 to 34 of 5 marks each. Their answers should be within 120 words.
Then section D has question number 35 with a map based question with 2 parts. 35 a is on history, of 2 marks, and 35 b is on geography, of 4 marks.
There are internal choices in several questions.
Although CBSE has said that sample paper and curriculum have some differences, it is relevant to note the question paper design provided in curriculum too. As per the CBSE class 10 social science curriculum 2020, the paper is supposed to have 23 marks worth of questions based on memory, 20 marks worth on understanding, then 16 marks worth questions will be on knowledge application, 10 marks for analysis and evaluation, 5 marks for creating, and 5 marks for map skills.

Social science curriculum says that from each of the four units, questions will be asked worth 20 marks. The four units are : Unit I – Indian and the contemporary world II, Unit II – Contemporary India II, Unit III – Democratic politics II, and Unit IV – Understanding Economic Development.
