Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has redefined the course of board exams 2020 by scrapping paper for 28 subjects. In the recent press release, the central board announced that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the postponed exams for class 10 and 12 will only be held for 29 major subjects. These include subjects like Hindi, Geography, Home Science, Physics, etc.
The board also informed that the revised dates for these examinations have not been decided yet. Such is because it is difficult to predict the future ahead. However, the board ensured that it will inform students at least 10 days before conducting the exam.
CBSE postponed the exams on March 18, 2020, for coming 8 days. By then, exams for class 10th were successfully conducted in the entire nations, except for North East Delhi where CAA protest took flight. It was class 12th students who were impacted the most because some of there major exam were lined up in these few days.
As per the press release, CBSE will now conduct class 10th exams, for North East Delhi, for Hindi course A, Hindi course B, English Comm, English Lan and Lit, Science, and Social Science. On the other hand, students of the same district will only have to write papers for 12 major subjects, which are Geography, Hindi Elective, Hindi Core, Home Science, Sociology, Computer Science (Old), Computer Science (New), Business Studies, Information Practice (Old), Information Practice (New), Information Technology, Biotechnology.
Class 12th students in the other parts of India will be writing 11 papers for Physics, Accountancy, Chemistry, English Elective – N, English Elective – C. English Core, Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Political Science, and History.
The board has also decided to scrap the examinations in foreign countries. There are a told of 25 countries, in which CBSE board is followed. Since these places are also in lockdown due to COVID-19 outbreak and the transferring of answer scripts is not possible. Hence, the board took this decision. The evaluation process for these countries will be announced in due course of time.
Students across national are anxious to know the revised dates for the postponed exams. Given the situation, it seems that CBSE will only be able to announce exam dates after April 14, 2020, when the lockdown is over. As per the predictions, the exams will be held in May, if the situation gets better. Otherwise, it might be shifted to June 2020.
