Central Board of Secondary Education has notified the opening of portal for moderation of marks of class 11, 12 today. Whereas the portal shall be opened today, for schools to carry out marks moderation and submit the same by the deadline. The objective would be to ensure that the class 12 results are comparable. The last date for marks moderation by schools affiliated with the CBSE is July 22, 2021.
CBSE will declare result of class 12 students by July 31, 2021. However, if any school does not complete moderation by the deadline, then result of that school will be announced separately, after July 31, 2021.
CBSE cancelled board exams this year owing to the pandemic and students are being evaluated on the basis of alternative assessment criteria based on class XI and class XII marks.
As such, CBSE schools have to complete the process so that the Class 12 marks can be finalized after moderation. In this context, CBSE has released complete guidelines. Schools have to mandatorily conduct the marks moderation as per the reference distribution released by the Board.

The Board has already directed the schools that there must not be any bunching of marks in the range of 95 marks or more. “Schools will therefore have to restrict the number of students at each level of overall marks from 95 and above, to ensure that this number is not more than the number of students scoring these overall marks as per the best historic performance of the last three years”, the notice reads.
The fundamental purpose of the CBSE Class 12 marks moderation is to ensure that the results are comparable between students from different CBSE affiliated schools. The moderation of marks will ensure that there is no unduly or unequal policy application across schools and students will get comparable results even though the exams were cancelled this year. CBSE has adopted a strict stance in implementing the marks moderation scheme. Schools that do not adhere to the mandatory marks moderation scheme may incur disciplinary action upon them.
How will marks moderation be done?
CBSE has notified, that in order for schools to easily carry out moderation of marks, the board has implemented a user friendly software. Schools can check guidelines for the same on the portal. There are two sections in the software, one is for subject wise moderation, and the other for overall.
Announcement of CBSE class 12 result 2021 is being awaited by lakhs of students across the country. Besides being an important milestone in itself, the result announcement will mark the green signal for universities such as DU to take off their admission process.
