Assam Board Exams 2021 Will Be Held If Positivity Rate Dips Below 2%

Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced that Assam Board Exam will be organized after July 15, 2021 if COVID positivity rate of the state will be below 2%.

Assam Board Class 10 and Class 12 Exam will be conducted if the positivity rate drops below 2%, said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. On Thursday, CM of Assam in a meeting addressed the conduct of the class 10th & class 12th State Board exams. Speaking on the decision, he has mentioned the State Board exams will not be conducted if the positivity rate of COVID-19 cases will be above 2% marks. Currently, the positivity rate of state COVID cases is 3.24 per cent.

The Assam Board Class 10 and Class 12 exams were expected to take place from May 10, 2021. However, due to the second wave of coronavirus, the State Board and Government decided to postpone the exam until further notice.  

On June 10, 2021, Assam Government has announced that the exam will be conducted in July 2021 provided that the positivity rate would drop below 2%. Reportedly, the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will hold the class 10th and class 12th exam from July 15, 2021, to July 20, 2021. The Government will analyse the COVID positivity rate by July 01, 2021. If the situation is not under control, the results for class 10th and class 12th will be based on school-based evaluation, Mr Sarma said. He has advised students to not stop their preparations.

The exam will be conducted for two or three papers with objective type questions. Candidates will be called on separate dates to maintain social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols. Assam Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu said “We will conduct the exam with a reduced number of subjects and if necessary on a reduced number of marks. We are currently observing COVID trend…we have to complete exams by August 15”.

Final decision on Assam Board Exam 2021 will be out on July 08, 2021, said Assam Education Minister. A high-level meeting will be organized with stakeholders. After further consultations, the final decision on when the exam will be scheduled. 

Moreover, amid COVID, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided not to conduct the CBSE Class 12th and Class 10th Board exam. A similar decision was announced by several other State Board. The board Exams Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and others have been cancelled. Students of the Assam Board also demand the same decision of Assam Board exam 2021. However, State Board has announced that the exam will take place after July 15, 2021. No final decision is announced on the exam date yet. So students should keep an eye on the official website to get the latest updates.
