Delhi University (DU) is the biggest and the most sought-after University by students after their class 12. DU admission usually starts after the results of class 12 are declared for all the boards. DU offers many undergraduate courses in its 90 affiliated colleges.
Every year, it receives lakhs of applications for admissions. Delhi University has two campuses: North and South Campus. Both of them have the most famous colleges.
In 2017, 2.2 lakh candidates had applied for 56000 seats of Delhi University. This number of applicants has always increased from past years. It is expected that this year also, the number is likely to increase further.
DU has total 90 colleges which it recognizes. These 90 colleges offer various major degrees like B.Sc, B.A, B.Com etc in various courses such as B.A in Psychology, Bachelor of Business Studies, B.A. in language courses etc. They also offer certificate, diploma courses in foreign languages which are recognized all over. Apart from these courses, this year, Five Year Integrated Journalism course has been introduced by the University.
Candidates apply for admissions to these courses depending on their preference. They also have to check the cut off for the various courses. DU releases the cutoff for the admissions after the class 12 results have been declared by various Boards. There are some courses for which the entrances are conducted. This includes courses like
- Bachelor of Management Studies,
- BA Business Economics,
- Bachelor of Business Administration (Financial Investment Analysis),
- Bachelor of Science in Physical Education,
- Health Education and Sports,
- BA (H) Multimedia and Mass Communication etc.
Faculty of Management Studies is one of the major colleges for MBA aspirants. FMS comes under Delhi University.
The majority of candidates who apply for the DU admissions are from CBSE. Other major boards include ICSE, UP Board and other state Boards. Class 12 results are declared early so that they do not face any difficulty in the admission process.
This problem will also be removed this year by DU. From 2018-19, the University will take the details of candidate’s class 12 marks directly from the database of CBSE with the help of a software. Thus the problem of submitting the marks will not be faced by the students.
From this year, there will be a single online portal for admissions through both merit as well as entrance based examinations. Previously, candidates had to apply separately for admissions. Also, those who are applying for admissions under sports category can now upload 3 certificates instead of 1 as previously done.
Delhi University will be conducting pre-admission interaction for the candidates and their parents to make them well aware of the changes, introduced this year. This is done to make sure that the candidates do not face any difficulty when the admission process starts.
